Artificial intelligence (AI) will primarily replace those who perform repetitive, predictable tasks that are easiest to automate, says John Warner, founder of InnoVenture. Warner predicts AI will next displace middle managers and even specialists in law and accounting.
Telemarketers, travel agents, cashiers, and loan officers are also at risk. Along with them are financial analysts, insurance underwriters, and anyone whose work involves many calculations, Warner warned.
In his view, AI poses a threat to many knowledge workers because it can perform their tasks more efficiently.
Clerical and accounting positions
The number of jobs for clerical and accounting workers will sharply decline due to the automation of data entry and basic reporting, says Martin Mulyadi, Ph.D., a professor at Shenandoah University’s School of Business.
He says the deployment of AI agents will lead to a sharp reduction in most clerical and accounting positions.
“While artificial intelligence can reduce the need for certain jobs, it also opens up new opportunities,” said Professor Mulyadi.
Call center employees
Piers Linney, founder of Implement AI, predicts that call centers in their current form will disappear within five years and be fully automated.
Linney says the AI revolution will transform education, the economy, social security, and tax systems.
Customer service specialists
Bernard Marr, author of the book “Artificial Intelligence in Practice,” told the Daily Mail that AI will compete for jobs across sectors — including manufacturing, data entry, and basic customer service tasks.
Regarding concerns that AI will replace programmers, Marr considers them “mostly unfounded.” While AI can automate certain coding tasks and even write basic code, the role of the programmer is evolving rather than disappearing.
“Programmers are needed for designing, monitoring, and improving artificial intelligence systems. In the future, programmers will work alongside AI, using it as a tool to enhance productivity and creativity,” the expert noted.
Nathaniel Whitmore, founder of the AI learning platform Superintelligent, says jobs related to acquiring, summarizing, and condensing information are also at risk of being eliminated.
Writers and analysts
Thomas Rule, a professor of organizational sociology and leadership at the University of Cambridge, says financial analysts, mathematicians, accountants, writers, and journalists face the greatest risk of displacement by AI.
