Renowned American doctor and blogger Joe Whittington says one simple habit while you sleep can subtly change the shape of your face. You might not even realize why it’s happening.
An experienced emergency room physician, Whittington addressed his two million followers and others who curl up on their sides every night. Aside from that sleeping position, a rough pillowcase could also be a quiet culprit behind facial changes, the Daily Mail reported.
Consequences – Facial Asymmetry and Premature Wrinkles
According to the expert, the consequences of sleeping improperly — facial asymmetry and premature wrinkles — are not easily corrected even with cosmetic injections.
Dr. Whittington emphasized that years of pressure and friction on one side of the face will cause visible problems. He warned that some of those lines and asymmetries often can’t be fixed with Botox.

How to Prevent This?
Fortunately, the doctor says there are simple ways to reduce the damage, and none of them will force you to give up comfort.
The first involves what experts call the “gold standard” for slowing facial aging: sleeping exclusively on your back.
Not everyone finds this position comfortable. But it’s worth trying to get used to it. The effect can be striking: pressure on your face disappears, and puffiness from fluid has a chance to drain away.
The second recommendation is to switch to silk pillowcases – they’re smoother, softer, and reduce skin friction that can cause creases.
There’s also a third option to avoid the negative effects of side sleeping: alternate your positions and sleep on a different side some nights.
“When it comes to wrinkles that resist Botox, sagging skin, and facial asymmetry, your sleeping position matters,” concluded Joe Whittington.
