For this elegant yet simple dessert, you’ll need red apples, chopped candied ginger, and a sweet syrup—date syrup, agave syrup, or plain sugar syrup.
Ingredients: red apples – 4; butter or oil – 40 g; brown sugar – 1/3 cup; ground cinnamon – a pinch; sugar syrup – 2 tablespoons; chopped candied ginger – 1 tablespoon; crushed nuts – ½ cup (for topping the finished dessert).
Preparation
Peel the apples, remove the cores, and slice them into rings. In a large skillet, heat the butter or oil over medium heat. Add the apples and sauté until they’re lightly browned.
Sprinkle the apples with brown sugar and cinnamon. Pour in the sugar syrup, add the chopped candied ginger and a cup of water.
Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer uncovered on low for 10 minutes.
Once the apples soften and the syrup thickens, the dessert is ready. Serve warm with cream, custard, or ice cream.
