Droplets…
For a while, people in our neighborhood called Iryna and me “droplets.” After all, droplets of water are all the same — just like us.
How wonderful it is to have a twin! It’s a feeling like no other. You never know loneliness or what alienation feels like. Because there’s always someone by your side who has known you since the very first moment of your life, who always loves you, always understands you, always supports you, and who is simply always there… Being there is so important! They’re always there when things are good, and when they’re bad. Twins almost never have friends — this is even referred to as the “twin syndrome” — because they simply don’t need them. We always have each other. Always.
Our poor parents had it rough. Not only were we born at seven months, each weighing 3.3 pounds, but I developed meningitis right after birth, which left me with little chance of survival. Our parents took us home after two months, signing a waiver, and nursed us back to health. They loved us fiercely, and we probably wanted to live just as much.
But once we grew up, things became much easier and more interesting! Mom says that from our earliest childhood we were inseparable. We always looked out for each other, often before ourselves… Our parents never knew how to keep us occupied — we always had fun together! They didn’t understand our homework routine — it was always easier and faster when we did it together! They felt comfortable leaving us alone without any worries.
The life of twins is a special life. It’s completely different from the life of a single person.
