What Your Phone-Typing Style Says About Your Age

Typing on a phone reveals a person's age.

You can often tell someone’s generation from their haircut or what they wear. But there are other clues—like how they type on a smartphone.

TikTok creator Tyler Morgan recently posted a video about this age marker. His conclusions are based on his own observations of friends and coworkers across different age groups, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Here are just a few of those observations

Morgan found that millennials typically type with both thumbs and often use the swipe feature with one hand. Gen Z does the same but faster. According to the TikTok blogger, Generation X and baby boomers mostly tap with one finger, sometimes using their index finger from the other hand.

People 65 and older usually hold their phones in one hand and type messages with the index finger of their other hand.

Morgan also mentioned a less common texting method: holding the smartphone horizontally.

The blogger says he’s genuinely impressed by people who do this: “Honestly, I don’t know how you do it, but it’s impressive.” However, he didn’t specify which generation is more likely to text this way.

Another way to guess someone’s age is the slang they use, but that’s a different conversation.
