For centuries, women have been depicted in paintings with long, silky hair. A team of psychologists from Yonsei University in South Korea found that married women with long, well-kept hair have sex more often than women with short hair.
The researchers believe that long hair may enhance men’s perception of their wives’ attractiveness and boost sexual desire. Conversely, the team found no correlation between the length of men’s hair and women’s libido.
How the Study Was Conducted
To investigate whether hair length affects the frequency of sexual encounters, the scientists recruited 204 married couples in South Korea.
Participants were asked how their partner’s physical attractiveness — including hair quality and length — affected their sexual desire. They also reported their sexual satisfaction, the frequency of sexual encounters, and their overall relationship satisfaction.
Results showed a significant correlation between a wife’s hair quality and length and how often the couple had sex, the Daily Mail reported.
“Men found women with longer hair more attractive, which increased men’s sexual desire. Higher desire was linked to more frequent sex,” the researchers said.

Key Takeaways
Some previous studies have shown that hair is a symbolic expression of femininity. However, there has been little scientific research on how the condition and length of hair affect romantic and intimate relationships.
Based on the findings, the researchers suggested women invest in hair care if they want to enhance their sex lives.
“Understanding the connection between physical attractiveness, sexual desire, and sexual activity contributes to a fuller understanding of human relationships,” the psychologists said.
The study’s results were published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology.
