MingYang announced plans to build another giant wind turbine and said the move would bring China one step closer to carbon neutrality. The flagship offshore turbine, the MySE 18.X-28X, has a capacity of more than 18 MW and will stand as tall as a 70‑story building.
This design tops the company’s earlier models on every measure, especially the MySE 16.0-242. MingYang says the new turbine is expected to help China reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
The turbine’s 140‑meter blades are mounted on a rotor more than 280 meters in diameter. One rotation sweeps an area of 66,052 m² and can generate electricity for thousands of people.
The MySE 18.X-28X can produce about 80 GWh of electricity per year assuming an average annual wind speed of 30.6 km/h. Designboom reported that this output would be enough to power around 96,000 people and cut CO2 emissions by roughly 66,000 tons.

The electrical generator is modular and lightweight thanks to comprehensive modernization, including hybrid drive technology. MingYang also plans to install holographic probing MPC and DTC systems — two features designed to protect the turbine in extreme ocean conditions, such as a typhoon of strength 17 with winds exceeding 200 km/h.
MingYang says the installation offers high generation capacity, a modular design, high transmission efficiency and power quality, typhoon resistance, effective sealing, optimal heat dissipation, corrosion resistance, easy transport and lifting, and relatively low cost.
MingYang’s engineers say they are proud of the MySE 18.X-28X. The turbine could play an important role in the transition to clean energy.
