GabyLG Electronics has introduced the portable LG StanbyME GO for indoor and outdoor use. This television features a 27-inch touchscreen display with a four-channel, 20W speaker system and packs into a suitcase. It lets travelers take multiple entertainment options anywhere: stream movies, play music, or run tabletop and touchscreen games.
A touchscreen TV that fits in a suitcase
Because the LG StanbyME GO is housed in a suitcase, it can be moved into tight spaces and carried easily. It includes a built-in battery that provides up to three hours of use without plugging in. LG showcased the gadget at IFA 2023 in Berlin, alongside the electric BMW Vision Neue Klasse and several new Lifestyle TVs.
LG based the StanbyME GO on its original StanbyME, but upgraded it with a touchscreen built into a rugged case. The case also includes secure storage for the remote control and power cable, plus a cover for impact protection.
The suitcase TV supports a range of usage options: users can tilt the screen to their preferred viewing angle, rotate it 90 degrees between landscape and portrait, raise or lower it by up to 18 cm, or set it in table mode.
The screen lies flat at the bottom of the case in table mode, letting users play digital board games like chess or use a virtual turntable. When used as a music player, the StanbyME GO’s built-in speakers automatically optimize front-facing audio, and the device supports advanced video and audio technologies.
The suitcase TV passed military-standard durability tests
The suitcase TV also has an automatic on/off function that activates when the case is opened and powers down when it is closed. LG says the StanbyME GO passed 11 U.S. military-standard tests. Those tests indicate it can withstand low and high pressure, extreme cold, dust, salt spray, impacts, vibrations, and accidental drops.
The StanbyME GO runs LG’s webOS smart TV platform, which lets users connect to iOS or Android devices. It also has voice recognition for hands-free app launching, sound control, and content search. That functionality is useful when cooking, cleaning, or doing other tasks while watching.
Designboom reports that LG launched the StanbyME GO in the U.S. with a planned rollout to key European markets — Italy, France, the U.K., Spain, and Germany — starting in October 2023.
