Nissan’s Max‑Out convertible glows in the dark and looks straight out of sci‑fi

Car enthusiasts have been waiting for the debut of this futuristic convertible since 2021, when the Japanese automaker first unveiled the Nissan Max-Out concept as a digital drawing.

Now a convertible that looks like an intergalactic vehicle is turning heads at the Shanghai Auto Show. The two-seater embodies Nissan’s new vision for the future of electric vehicles.

Nissan has unveiled a new electric convertible that glows in the dark.

The convertible is lavishly adorned with LED lighting both inside the cabin and on the outside. The wheels feature three-dimensional LED rings. Its glossy finish reflects the surroundings, and in the dark the car glows like something out of a sci‑fi movie.

The car’s retro design only amplifies that impression. The hood and body have a distinctive aerodynamic shape. Transformer seats, reminiscent of spaceship chairs, can flatten to the floor when needed to add interior space, Designboom reported.

The new convertible reinforces Nissan’s reputation as a maker that favors functional yet unexpected design. The developers say the Max-Out’s sharp lines and lighting elements give it its unique silhouette.

The Max-Out’s low stance was designed from the outset for high-speed driving and dynamic cornering. Responsive steering and controlled body roll help create a sense of unity between the driver, the passenger, and the vehicle.

The electric convertible runs on a solid-state battery with high energy density and fast charging. A large information display is easily visible to both driver and passenger and sits behind a steering wheel that resembles a ship’s wheel.

It’s currently unknown when—or whether—the first Nissan Max-Out convertibles will reach production. In addition to this model, Nissan showcased two other new concepts at the Shanghai Auto Show. Nissan hasn’t released official details about those vehicles yet.

Meanwhile, the company outlined a plan for the coming years: by 2030, Nissan plans to create 23 new electric vehicle concepts. Most of them will be fully electric.
