7 Minutes of HIIT a Day Reduced Premature Ejaculation in a Small Study

Short, intense workouts can help combat premature ejaculation.

Researchers at East China Normal University say a short daily workout could help men with premature ejaculation.

Many men who experience premature ejaculation turn to medication, but a short gym routine could also help their sex lives.

In their study, the team found that just 7 minutes a day of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) reduced premature ejaculation symptoms in under two weeks.

How Was the Study Conducted?

The researchers involved 76 men aged 18 to 34 in their study. Each participant had a regular partner with whom they engaged in sexual activity at least once a week.

The volunteers were divided into three groups. The first group did 7 minutes of HIIT daily for two weeks, alternating short bursts of intense exercise with rest periods.

The second group did daily 7-minute slow-breathing exercises, while the third group—the control—did standard breathing exercises each day.

Throughout the experiment, all participants completed several questionnaires, as reported by the Daily Mail.

After a few days, the analysis showed that symptoms of premature ejaculation had decreased in both the first and third groups. However, participants in the second group, who practiced slow breathing, did not notice any changes. By the twelfth day, symptoms were less pronounced in the HIIT group compared with the control group that did standard breathing exercises.

In the International Journal of Clinical and Health Psychology, the team wrote, “Compared to the control group, the effectiveness of two weeks of HIIT exercises in alleviating symptoms of premature ejaculation suggests its potential as a new treatment method.”

They said it’s unclear whether the benefits last over a longer period and that the study included only young men, so further research is needed.
