The inventor who goes by The Q showcased a strange bicycle on his YouTube channel. It rides on two square wheels that don’t rotate during the ride. The wheels have tank-like treads and are driven by chains and pedals.
Overall, the inventor has built several quirky rover models. But this latest one has blown fans away.
He posted a step-by-step YouTube video showing how he made the two-wheeled contraption. The YouTuber demonstrated how he made the square frames for the wheels. He fitted them with spokes that serve a purely decorative purpose; the main drive comes from the pedals, chains, and tracked tires.
At the end of the how-to video, he removed the rover’s usual round wheels and swapped in the square ones.
So the new prototype is functional — strange as that sounds. At first glance it moves pretty smoothly across flat surfaces. Still, using this vehicle is problematic.
It rides fairly well on a flat road but is miserable on rough terrain. It struggles to turn. It can’t handle climbs, descents, or even small bumps.
The blogger called this bicycle “one of the craziest” projects he’s built with his team and said it deserves attention.
As The Q predicted, the video amazed many internet users. At the time the Daily Mail article was published, the YouTube video showcasing the latest bike had been viewed more than 1.1 million times.
The inventor didn’t disclose how much it cost to build the bike at home, and it’s unclear whether anyone will try to mass-produce such a design. If there’s no commercial plan, why build it? Maybe just for the crazy attention from the online community.
