If She’s Not Bored in Bed, She’s Unlikely to Cheat

If your partner isn't bored in bed, she won't

A charming colleague at the office, a handsome waiter, or a muscular gym regular—attractive men are everywhere around your partner. The study suggests the only time to worry that your wife or girlfriend might run off with one of them is if she feels bored with you in bed.

New research suggests that if your partner doesn’t feel monotony in your sex life, she’s unlikely to stray—even if she finds another man appealing.

The study focused on 1,155 heterosexual Portuguese women who had been in long-term relationships (at least a year). The average age of the participants was 32.

During the study, participants answered online questions that measured sexual boredom, sexual desire, sexual satisfaction, and overall relationship satisfaction. The researchers measured monotony (boredom) in the bedroom using a specialized scale.

The analysis revealed that sexual boredom was the strongest factor affecting both sexual satisfaction and overall relationship satisfaction. The study found that women who were happy with their sex lives were also more satisfied with their relationships, the Daily Mail reported.

The study also found that when a woman isn’t bored in the bedroom, any interest she shows in other men shouldn’t be a cause for worry: she has no intention of cheating.

The study’s authors wrote, “We found that feelings of desire for a partner are linked to higher levels of satisfaction in both sexual life and relationships, especially when sexual boredom is virtually absent.”

In an article in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, the team said the findings could help people facing challenges in their relationships.

They wrote that interventions aimed at overcoming sexual boredom and fostering creativity and eroticism could boost satisfaction and sexual desire, and they urged clinicians to assess patients’ individual experiences of sexual boredom.
