For busy people, baking in a baking sleeve is a perfect low-effort way to prepare meals: it requires minimal hands-on time and keeps dishes and cookware clean. You can bake meat, poultry, or fish on their own or together with vegetables that will be served alongside them. Ingredients can be left whole or cut into pieces; cooking time depends on size. Meat in a sleeve usually needs 40 minutes to 2 hours, while poultry, fish, and cut vegetables take about 30 minutes (whole vegetables will need around an hour). Place the marinated or chopped ingredients into the baking sleeve, tightly tie both ends, and press out any excess air. A bonus for anyone watching fat: you can skip the oil—the ingredients will cook in their own juices.
Ingredients (for 6 servings): 900 g beef; 900 g potatoes; 1 carrot; 1 onion; 1 sweet pepper*; 2 tomatoes*; 2 cloves of garlic; 2 tablespoons vegetable oil; 1 bay leaf; meat seasoning to taste; ½ teaspoon ground red pepper; ½ teaspoon ground black pepper; 1 teaspoon salt.
*Note: The tomatoes and sweet pepper in this recipe are optional additional ingredients (you can choose one or the other).
Cut the meat, potatoes, carrot, pepper, tomatoes, and onion into medium-sized pieces. Mince the garlic. Season everything with salt, the ground red and black pepper, and the meat seasoning; add the vegetable oil if using, then mix well.
Place all the ingredients into the baking sleeve, tie it up, and place it in a baking dish or tray. Put the sleeve with its contents into a preheated oven at 200°C (about 400°F). Bake for 90 minutes.
Tip
Poke a few small holes in the sleeve with a toothpick before putting it in the preheated oven to prevent it from puffing up and bursting. Cut the sleeve open at the end of the baking time so the beef and vegetables can brown in the final minutes to get a golden, crispy crust.
